Description:

Despite the complexity university internationalization presents, university faculty members have contributed and continue to contribute to internationalization in impactful ways. To examine one aspect of faculty contribution to university internationalization, this exploratory case study focused on short-term faculty international programming as it drew upon the examination of an institutional context. Experiences of internationally engaged faculty members of two different academic areas at one research institution were collected through in-depth interviewing to examine international programming practices. Results of this study suggested that the institutional context influenced international programming as it both hindered and enabled faculty practices. It also suggested that program typology was dependent on faculty availability, financial resources and creativity. Additional findings touched upon the importance of departmental support for faculty international programming, faculty professional development to enhance international programming and the impact of fragmented international structures on university internationalization efforts and initiatives.
