At present, the main items cataloged are a portion of the holdings of the UCSB's Map and Imagery Laboratory. There are over 15,000 holdings publicly available and online for download over the Internet.
A note about Quick Placename Search:
- Searching using with phrases terms like "Santa Barbara, California" will not
produce the desired results.
Searching for "Santa Barbara" while the map is centered on California will produce the desired result.
A note about General Catalog Searches:
- Using placenames ("Goleta"), or object type terms ("Map") as 'Words to Search for' will find items with "Goleta" or "Map" in the title. It will not find all available maps covering Goleta.
- Focusing on a map region (region where Goleta is located) and selecting an object type (Maps) is the preferred method.
- We suggest a text (words) and a geographic (map) search, or a text and type (feature and object type) search, or often, just a text search. Avoid a text, geographic and type search. Often a map search will tell you if we have a information in the catalog for a particular area. In the cases where you get too many results, then limit the search further.
